PHEDEC’S ACHIEVEMENT IN CHILDREN OF HOPE PROJECT YEAR 2009 – 2011
Our last project implemented was on Care for Orphans and Vulnerable Children and HIV/AIDS prevention.
OVC:
On OVC, we served 768 Orphans and Vulnerable Children and their Caregivers with the following:
Nutrition:
1) We received and distributed 227 bags of rich fill supplement to OVC in Eziama.
2) We received and distributed 300 cartoons of malt drinks to OVC in Eziama and Ntu (courtesy of
Nigerian Breweries)
Health:
1) We distributed BCK materials (insecticides, treated nets, buckets and water guard) to OVC in Eziama
and Ntu
2) Trained 63 Caregivers in Eziama and Ntu on water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH)
Education:
1) PHEDEC made 250 primary school uniforms for OVC in Eziama
2) We built and distributed 235 three-seater primary school desks to OVC in Eziama and Ntu primary
Schools.
3) Procured and distributed 576 dozens of 60 leaves notebook to OVC in Eziama and Ntu.
Protection:
1) PHEDEC provided National Birth Certificates to 70% of the identified OVC in Eziama and Ntu.
Economic Strengthening:
1) We trained 176 Caregivers in Eziama on Income Generating Activities (IGA)
2) We trained 40 Caregivers in Eziama on Business Skills Development (BSD)
3) PHEDEC provided revolving loan of N10, 000.00 per person to 26 caregivers in Eziama.
PREVENTION:
On HIV/AIDS prevention, PHEDEC achieved the following:
1) We reached 747 people comprising of adolescents, youths and adults (Males 377 and Females 370) with the Minimum Prevention Package (MPP).
2) PHEDEC trained 16 females and 18 males as Peer Educators and they were used to reach the above number of people.
WEWE LOPIN Project ( 2014 – 2018)
PHEDEC is executing the project in partnership with Widows and Orphans Empowerment Organization in eight (8) Communities in Ngor/Okpala L.G.A, Imo State.
Health: HIV/AIDS prevention PHEDEC through partnership with some health facilities and hospitals has rendered the following services on HIV/AIDS prevention: Testing of OVCs and their caregivers: PHEDEC has reached more than 3150 beneficiaries on HIV/AIDs and malaria testing and counseling on causes and prevention of Malaria and HIV/AIDS. We also administered both LLIN and anti-malaria tablets. On the positive cases we encountered during HIV/AIDS testing PHEDEC did a complete referral of the clients with duly signed consent /referral forms.
PHEDEC enrolled 1155 households and visited all the households that are test indicated during HTS and malaria testing. The households were given health education based on ages and the younger OVCs from 1year to 15years are assessed using MUAC tape. During health education, PHEDEC invited a nutritional focal person who carried out food demonstration and other food supplements were given to the beneficiaries. On health also, PHEDEC was able to abolish some GBV/Gender issues in Ngor Okpala
PHEDEC has also carried out drama series on sensitization of the masses on malaria causes, effect, prevention and cure in the three zones of Imo State for Imo State Ministry of Health as a Sub Recipient to Health and Communication Organization (HACO)
Protection: The OVCs were issued with birth certificates, and as a further protection means, PHEDEC established Community Improvement Teams (CIT) in the communities for caring for the OVCs and their Caregivers.
Economic Empowerment: PHEDEC in partnership with Widows and Orphans Empowerment Organization empowered more than 205 households with the following: Provisions, Kerosene, Cassava, Oil, Grinding machines etc worth more than N20,000 per household based on their areas of specialization which made them more stable and capable to care for their OVCs. Also, PHEDEC recruited more than 52 volunteers through which we reached these households on home visitations, school visit and caregivers, youths and kids forum.
Also, PHEDEC trained and established more than 22 Village Savings and Loan Association (VSLA) groups where the caregivers gained knowledge in Savings/ Small Scale Business Management Skills which stabilized many households. 13 out of the 22 VSLA groups were transformed into Co-operative societies before end of September 2018.
CARITAS 4GATES OVC PROJECT 2019 – 2022
Achievements so Far: PHEDEC have enrolled 8038 Beneficiaries and trained 43 Community Volunteers to serve them in the 6 Local Government Areas allocated to us by the Project. The six LGAs PHEDEC is currently working in are; Ngor /Okpala, Aboh Mbaise, Ezinihitte, Ahiazu, Obowu and Ikeduru.

Under this project PHEDEC have enrolled 11886 beneficiaries whom we are providing with different services such as Health, Education, Protection, Economic Empowerment and Psychosocial support.
